Jilin International Studies University (JISU), founded in 1995, is a key university in Jilin Province. The University was approved by the Ministry of Education as a private teaching organization to offer four-year undergraduate programs in 2003 and obtained the authorization to confer bachelor’s degrees and began to run joint master’s degree programs in 2005. In 2007 the University became the first and only private university in China at the provincial key university level. Jilin University is a national key comprehensive university under the direct administration of Ministry of Education in China. Located in Changchun, Jilin Province, the university was founded in 1946. In 1960, it was listed as a national key university. In 1984, it was one of the 22 universities initially granted the permission to admit postgraduates. In 1995, it became one of the first “Project 211” universities, as determined by the State Education Commission of China. In 2001, Jilin University was listed as one of the “Project 985” key construction universities.
